Moniker modifies your files by renaming them. You assume all risk for any changes made to your files.

We strongly recommend maintaining backups of your files before using Moniker. The creators of Moniker accept no liability whatsoever for any file modifications, data loss, file corruption, or any other consequences resulting from the use of this software. By using Moniker, you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for any and all changes made to your files.

Acceptance of Terms

By downloading or using Moniker, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service, including the assumption of all risk related to file modifications. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the software.

Description of Service

Moniker is a desktop application for macOS that uses local AI models to analyze files and suggest intelligent file names. The application:

  • Runs entirely on your Mac
  • Processes files using locally-installed AI models
  • Does not require an internet connection after initial setup
  • Does not transmit your files or data to external servers

License

Moniker is provided as free, open-source software. You may use, copy, modify, and distribute the software in accordance with the license terms specified in the source code repository.

Your Responsibilities

You are solely responsible for all consequences of using Moniker, including but not limited to:

  • Backing up your files: You must maintain complete backups of all files before using Moniker. We are not responsible for any data loss.
  • Reviewing all changes: You are responsible for verifying every suggested name before accepting it. Once a file is renamed, you bear full responsibility for that change.
  • Understanding the risks: File renaming can break file associations, links, and references. You accept all risks associated with modifying your file system.
  • You must not use Moniker for any unlawful purpose
  • You must have appropriate rights to the files you process with Moniker

AI-Generated Suggestions

Moniker uses AI models to generate file name suggestions. You acknowledge and agree that:

  • AI suggestions may not always be accurate or appropriate
  • You should review all suggested names before accepting them
  • The AI models are provided by third parties and may have their own limitations
  • We do not guarantee the quality or accuracy of any AI-generated suggestions

Disclaimer of Warranties

MONIKER IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. We do not warrant that:

  • The software will be error-free or uninterrupted
  • AI-generated suggestions will be accurate or suitable for any purpose
  • The software will meet your specific requirements
  • Any defects will be corrected

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MONIKER AND ITS CREATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, including but not limited to:

  • Any and all file modifications, renaming, or changes made by the software, whether intentional or unintentional
  • Data loss, file corruption, or inability to recover original file names
  • Broken file associations, links, references, or dependencies caused by renamed files
  • Any inaccurate, inappropriate, or unwanted AI-generated suggestions that are applied
  • Your use or inability to use the software
  • Any errors, bugs, or defects in the software
  • Any damages arising from third-party AI models used by the software

YOU EXPRESSLY UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT YOUR USE OF MONIKER IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK. In no event shall our total liability to you exceed the amount you paid for the software (which is $0 for free software).

Assumption of Risk

By using Moniker, you expressly acknowledge and assume the following risks:

  • File modifications are permanent: Moniker renames files directly on your file system. There is no built-in undo functionality.
  • AI is imperfect: AI-generated names may be incorrect, inappropriate, or cause unintended consequences when applied.
  • System compatibility: Renaming files may affect other applications, scripts, or systems that depend on specific file names.
  • No recovery guarantee: We provide no mechanism to restore original file names. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Moniker and its creators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the software or your violation of these terms.

Modifications

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Continued use of the software after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles.
